For what it's worth, I'm using AVG Free Edition, and ZoneAlarm firewall, but
also, SpywareBlaster, Spybot, and Ad-aware.
And in case the lodgeer is planning to blow up the central heating, I've
also got Swat-it, which is a Trojean detector.
Over the top Well, all they cost me is the time to run them. That's a great
deal less time now I've got a faster PC. As all the programs have a
different approach, they all end up with something to do from time to time.
Occasionally I've just noticed that there's a file I don't recognise on my
root directory or in \windows\system32, and usually I can find out on the
Internet that it is indeed a malicious program, and I'll use any available
removal fix. Sometimes that's just deleting one file.

the latest version of nis does have spyware and adware, as does 2005 anti spyware edition.
btw, you can, of course, use single issue software too, a spyware checker
virus checker, and an adware checker separately.
