sd2iec defines 3 LED functions:

DIRTY/ERROR
BUSY
AUX

On the SD2IEC (the hardware), the AUX is off, and LED1 is BUSY, while 
LED2 is DIRTY/ERROR.

On the uIEC 2.3 (IDE), AUX is off, LED1 is PWR (red) and LED2 is 
ERROR/BUSY (green).  The DIRTY function is not used.
On the uIEC 3.0 (SD), AUX is red (and is also used as PWR), and 
ERROR/BUSY is GREEN.

The firmware is indeed compiled from the same source code, but there are 
specific changes for each hardware target (as noted above for LEDs).  On 
the 2.3 uIEC, the single status LED is on PE3, while on uIEC/SD (3.0), 
PWR is on PG1, and ERROR/BUSY is on PG0
