Subject: [rollei_list] a little unparallel of lens panel

hi,

i found a problem with my 3.5e which i did not noticed when i bought.
when moving the focusing knob back and forth, the two sides of the
lens panel don't move simultaneously, hence can not keep totally
parallel to the camera body, the difference between two sides is about
1mm.

i want to know that whether this 1mm unparallelled is a big problem?
and is it possible to repair it by myself? i live in china and don't
believe here local repair stores.

thanks.

Its hard to know exactly what caused this. One cause could be lack of lubrication on the cams that drive the front. There is a cam on each side. The cam followers are spring loaded. If the lubrication is dried out or of the wrong type the movement of the front will not be even. Also, if the spring tension in the cam followers is not right the same thing can happen. Getting at the focus mechanism is not too easy. On the focus knob side one just has to remove the side plate, but on the wind side it may be more difficult because the focus cam is buried under the wind mechanism. It IS possible to get to it, at least to lubricate it. The correct lubricant is a heavy grease with some damping properties. When correctly lubricated and adjusted the focus should be smooth but with enough resistance to prevent the front from moving on its own. You should not be able to move the front by just pushing on it.
