Lance,
According my understanding, slide film and
positive film are different terms to design identical
subject, positive film is slide when you slide it in
your projector, but slide became a general use term in
photography to mean positive film, positive as opposite
regarding negative film, despite positive film could
become into negative and negative into positive using
crossed processes (C-41 for slide and E-6 for color
neg), some strange, beautiful or ugly effects you
could obtain from these crossed processes. Filtration
could be confusing in shade or without shade and this
is the reason I rarely use filters with slide film,
except for certain hours of the day, but it does not
happen for the shade only, it happens for the sunlight
too.

All the best
Carlos
