BTW, do be careful when mucking about with power packs. if something shorts out on a fully charged pack, it can knock a person off their feet or worse.
If they're really old school electronics, (nothing really hi tech), and you have access to an old variac, you could put a low voltage against them for a few hours. Say less than 20 VAC in, to let the caps reform, Then ramp up the input voltage to see how they react.I'll bet they're dried out however.Getting hot.
