If you have more than one meter, at most one of them will be right.
Even if you have the means to calibrate them. For one thing, they may
each be somewhat nonlinear, and they will be so in different ways.
Second, they will often have different color responses, depending on the
photocell or photodiode they use.

I find using a separate meter with an SLR to be a real pain. The only
time I do it is if I have the SLR on a tripod. And usually, if I am
going to the trouble of carrying a tripod around, I might as well put my
4x5 on top of it. ;-)
