On most Nikon cameras there is a small - tab that is pressed in by the closing
of the camera back. It is spring loaded so that when you open the back the tab
sticks out. When this happens the counter is reset.

Open the back and in god light look in the area where the light seals reside.
Sometimes the light seals get gummy with age and prevent the tab from
protruding and actuating counter reset. Should be an easy fix.

Subject: [pure-silver] counter on Nikon FG not working

I have an old Nikon FG that has served me well. When I was at the
beach I came to the end of a roll but the little button on the bottom
wouldn't press in to rewind. I kept trying, and eventually it did.
Now when I open the back, put in new film, and close the back the
counter won't go back to zero. Is there something simple I can do to
fix it? I know there probably aren't parts available to fix it for
less than I might pay to buy a new one. Any advice? Thanks.
