Well... the short answer is to purchase a valid copy from MS. Apparently, whoever installed Windows for you didn't install a valid copy. If it was a friend or relative, well then there's not much you can do other than complain to them and let them figure it out. However, if you bought the computer from someone and this is the copy they put on there for you, you have a valid cause of complaint against them, and you can threaten them by telling them you'll report them to MS if they don't give you a valid copy of the operating system. Other than that, keep in mind that Microsoft WILL still allow you to download and install critical and security updates. It's the non-critical and non-security topic updates that you won't be able to get. Unfortunately, due to the group's legitimacy and rules, we can't discuss bypassing the MS validation. But, the pirates out there have already bypassed this form of anti-piracy method by MS. ---Troth -----Original Message----- From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of CINDRA4@xxxxxxx Sent: Monday, August 22, 2005 3:38 PM To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Windows XP I have a question maybe someone can advise me. My parents have a computer that has windows XP on it. The problem is when I went to do the updates for SP2 I was told it wasn't a valid copy of windows XP. Now what to do? I have been told I can buy a key code or something like that and that will make it valid. Any ideas? I really do need to get the updates on that computer Thank you Cindra -- <Please delete this line and everything below.> To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ -- <Please delete this line and everything below.> To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/
