On your ME machine, Right click Network Icon, and go to properties. Highlight TCP/IP and then enter the above IP address and Subnet mask. On your XP machine, Right click Network Icon, and go to properties. Highlight TCP/IP and click the Obtain An IP Address Automatically. Again this is where you need to have fully uninstalled ZoneAlarm, or this will not work. Can you put Norton firewall on this machine also? You only need this firewall on the machine that is connected to the net only. ----- Original Message ----- Sorry for taking a while to get back to you, I am very sore and tired today. I am disabled, with a busted up back ,and I am doing my parents garden, well what do I say, I am a sucker for helping my family. lol Right I can see a big problem already here. Right if I have this right, you are using the ME machine to connect to the net right now. This is why we have two Ethernet cards showing up in "ipconfig". This tells me we need to make a few changes and see if we can get it all to work. First of, do you have ZoneAlarm on the ME machine, if so then we will never get this to work right at all. Second, we need to set the ME machine up with the IP address : 192.168.0.1 and subnet mask : 255.255.255.0. ============= How exactly can I do that ? ============== Third, we need to get the XP machine to automatically get its IP address which it will then get from the ME machine. ================= How exactly do I ensure it does that ? =============== Once this is done let me know. Okay I now you are from Spain as I am a bit of a smart-ass, and I checked your email address. it ended in ES, so I knew it was Spain. In a way I do have a connection with Spain ,as my cousin lives in a town called Calpe, which is a short way north of Benedorm. At present I am trying to get him on the phone, so I can arrange to go out there for two weeks at the end of next month. Not been out since Easter last year. It is very good for my back ,as the weather is warmer and also not so humid. ==================== We get people coming here from all over the world because of the health benefits and not fogetting the cheap vino tinto ! ( I work for Costa Blanca Property Rentals ) I wait for your next reply, I've been pulling my hair out over this for the last four days ! ====================== As for protocols for Spain, they seam to work at present, as his phone line is not working. he he. Trevnal ----- Original Message ----- Hi Trevnal, I see Chris is having similar problems to me, must be catching { : - ) Now here we go, here's the answers : On the xp pro first : Ethernet adaptor local area connection : connection-specific dns suffix : ip address : 192.168.0.1 subnet mask : 255.255.255.0 defaualt gateway : Now onto win me : 0 ethernet adaptor : ip address : 80.32.3.44 subnet mask : 255.255.255.192 default gateway : 80.32.3.2 1 ethernet adaptor : ip address : 192.169.0.11 subnet mask : 255.255.255.0 default gateway : Whats next ? Click on that and then type in "ping 127.0.0.1" On XP, START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES and then you will find COMMAND PROMPT this time. Again just type in "ping 127.0.0.1" By the way what part of Spain are you in? So, the first step for me is below. Doug. ----- Original Message ----- From: Trevnal To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, October 07, 2002 5:47 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Network win me to xp pro Hi Doug, So we know that the network cards work fine, as we can ping 127.0.0.1. This tells us that the drivers are also working. +++++++++++ How exactly do you that on win me and xp pro ? ++++++++++ To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/
