Don't worry about his bit yet as we are working towards it.

It may be a to easier if you had the modem connected to the XP machine, but
we can try it this way at present.

You are setting up your computers the same as mine, but both of mine are XP
ones, with a USB modem also. it does work okay, I can say for sure, once
you get all the setting right.

First we want to be able to see both computers and get them to talk to each
other.

My first name is Trevnal, but I am often called Trev,

Trevnal or Trev

Just a quick note to add to that last post, don't forget that both the
network cards connect directly with each other, plus I've got an
external usb adsl modem and I would prefer to share the internet if
it's not going to be a hassle.

Is Trev your first name ?

Doug

  Doug,
On ME, click START, PROGRAMS, and then find the dos prompt. Click
on that
and then type in "ping 127.0.0.1"

On XP, START, PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES and then you will find COMMAND
PROMPT
this time. Again just type in "ping 127.0.0.1"

By the way what part of Spain are you in?

  Trevnal

If it's ok with you, I am really a complete newbie, but I learn
fairly
quickly), can we please take it one step at a time, because I don't
really understand most of your post. So, the first step for me is
  below.

  Doug.

    Hi Doug,

So we know that the network cards work fine, as we can ping
  127.0.0.1. This
tells us that the drivers are also working.

    +++++++++++
How exactly do you that on win me and xp pro ?
