Gentlemen,
I recommend the machine vice kit from Model Engineering Services, Pipworth
Farm, Pipworth Lane, Eckington, Sheffield, S21 4EY. It cost me £38.50 plus
£8.50 carriage. Service is excellent.
This kit was highly recommended to me by a number of model engineers. I
learned a lot from making this vice. When you look at the instructions and
the lumps of metal, it seems daunting, but by following the instructions
step by step, and asking the 'wise men' when you get stuck, a great deal of
satisfaction is gained from completeing it. The biggest puzzle was working
out how to squeeze those penannular steel dowels into their respective
holes.....No No No, put that club hammer down.....use the bench vice to push
them in!
I was told that the machining was so easy, you could do it all in an
evening. It took me weeks! OK, months.
Best wishes,
Jem Harrison
