Yeah Harry, I know that he wanted a 4", but I was just having a bit of fun by telling him he needed a vise like mine that weighs a whole heap. Heck, it weighs so much you don't even need to bolt it to the table, just set it up on the mill and go to work! [:>) I am using a 4" Palmgreen vise that I had on a drill press about 30 years ago for most of my milling. Several years back, the frame cross member where the clamp screw goes through broke off so I drilled thru in two places and put in 1/2" grade 8 cap screws. Works just fine now. I don't like the current crop of mill vises because they hold the stationary jaw in place with a piece of keystock and I have seen the main frame broken off at this keyway. My "India Made" 6" vise has the stationary jaw made as part of the main frame casting as does the Palmgreen. I can't fathom why it is "better" to put the fixed jaw on with a keyway unless it is cheaper to make them that way.
