I've always been struck by how annoyed people get when others talk on
cellphones in public. (I see how you've qualified it, Judy -- just
using you as a hook here...). Many train lines have taken to reserving
'quiet' cars for people who want to get a way from that. But I'm not
sure I see a difference between someone talking on a cellphone in their
train seat and talking to their neighbour in the next train seat.
Perhaps what really annoys us is that we overhear only half the
conversation.
