Hey, everyone. Not to worry! Syria and Iran are "working together to

musing on what might be termed
the twelve labours of Bush's successors, in
Kiel, Germany
P.S. List members are invited to offer their versions of some or all of
the 'Twelve Labo(u)rs of Bush's Successors' which they see as in some
way parallel (see above for a prime example of just how loosely) the
'Twelve Labours of Hercules' of classical mythology. 'Twelve Labours
of Blair's Successors' and 'Twelve Labours of New Labour's Successors'
are also welcome. (The 'Twelve - or indeed Twelve Times Twelve -
Labours of Angela Merkel's Coalition Government's Successors' may be a
topic too parochial for this list, but feel free ....)
The classic 'Twelve Labours of Hercules' (according to the
Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2005 DVD edition):
(1) slaying the Nemean lion
(2) slaying the nine-headed Hydra
(3) capturing the hind of Arcadia
(4) capturing the wild boar of Mt. Erymanthus
(5) cleansing King Augeas' stables in a single day
(6) shooting the man-eating birds of the Stymphalian marshes
(7) capturing the mad bull that terrorized Crete
(8) capturing King Diomedes' man-eating mares
(9) taking the Amazon Queen Hippolyte's girdle
(10) seizing the three-bodied giant Geryon's cattle
(11) bringing back the golden apples of the Hesperides
(12) fetching up the triple-headed dog Cerberus from the nether world
P.P.S. Do any list members know of ancient or modern parodies or
re-workings of the 'Twelve Labours of Hercules'? If so, please post
titles and authors.
