Hey Paul,

Well, I have been comfortably numb for years (since 1995!) with Allegro
Expert, and Concept HDL as the front end.

I don't know DX Designer or Viewlogic, but I've heard of them.

I don't really know much at this point, we are being moved to another group
in the company, one that I hear uses Mentor products.

I will be talking to someone in the new group and find out all of the
details soon.

Yes, I'm looking at it as an opportunity to learn something new! All of the
same functions are there, I just need to figure out where they are, and how
to be efficient at it.

Thanks for the response!

Hello Gary,

Mentor's New Expedition tool suites are what would be comparable these days
to Allegro's high end products. As you probably know Expedition is front
ended by what Mentor has called DX Designer, but if you are familiar with
Viewlogic schematic package then you will be fine as Viewlogic is DX
Designer. they have thrown some hooks in there but it works. Do you know
exactly what design flows and methodology AMD has purchased from Mentor?

But Gary with all those years of PCB experience what's another Cad
Package. Look at it as opportunity for yourself.

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] To Mentor...

Hey guys,

Well, it looks like I will be switching to Mentor (boo hoo!) after using
Allegro for twelve years.

Could anyone tell me which is the high end Mentor product? Also, any tips
on learning it (I will probably get official training, but I want to get a
jump on it).

Does Mentor have scripts like Allegro, Constraint Manager etc.?

Thanks for any responses!
