[bksvol-discuss] Re: Publisher Quality Books needing synopses

G. Cindy,

I have a question regarding synopses. If you cite where you got the synopses from *B&N or Amazon* can these be used without running the risk of plagerism? I always state where I am getting them from as in all reality, most of the synopses on B&N and Amazon come right from the book itself.

I am just trying to figure-out the best way to do this. I have been told that as long as you cite the summary, it is fine...is this the case?

Maithe *confused as ever*

Sigh. Originally I was going to add brief synopses
based on amazon.com to my email list, but when I
started the other night, there were so many books and
it was so late and some of the reviews were detailed I
couldn't figure out how to briefly synopsize (if there
is such a word). I could add genre, e.g., scifi,
fantasy. It was the Garth Nix books that I couldn't
figure out how to describe briefly, so I gave up and
went to bed.

Most of the publisher quality books that have been
added in the past couple of days have been fiction, if
that's any help, and from the titles, I'd guess many
were romance. It rather surprised me, as they seemed
to be the type I'd consider Harlequin or that type of
romance.

If those of you who receive my list want some kind of
description even if it's only genre, please let me
know. I'll start working on the list earlier in the
evening. smile

Hello Everyone,

As volunteers we are required to include at least a
short synopsis
with our submissions of books in order to have them
even accepted as
submissions. I do not like not seeing any synopses
at all with the
dozens of Publisher Quality books. If we are
required to provide a
synopsis with each book that we wish to add to the
Bookshare
collection, I think that Publisher Quality books
should not be exempt
from this requirement.

I don't know who is responsible for adding these new
Publisher
Quality books to the collection, but I think whoever
is responsible
for including them should also be responsible for
including a
synopsis with each book. It isn't as though anyone
had to take the
time to scan the book, or even validate it, so
someone should at
least be held accountable for providing a synopsis.

If I want to know if a book is of interest to me, I
have to go
seeking somewhere else a synopsis of it. That isn't
impossible, but
it is a pain, especially since we as volunteers are
required to make
the effort to include a synopsis with each book
which we wish to have
added to the Bookshare collection. Requirements
should be
requirements across the board, in my opinion.

I am seriously considering not submitting any more
books until this
inequity has been rectified.
