Allison, we did ask her why it wasn't there. We didn't jump to any conclusions. We actually have Carrie's original post on why Power To The People wasn't purchased as well as her reply to Jamie Pauls when he asked about it. It was a choice, not an oversight. While it was her choice to make, I think it's fair to call a spade a spade. Saying that you're not doing a book because its content raises your blood pressure connotes awareness that you are deliberately choosing to skip a book. That's why I say that it's not an oversight. As I said previously, as a volunteer, Carrie had the right to make her choice about reading the book. However, her choice to skip processing the book at all limitted the timely availability of a book from the bestseller list, and that is where some of us have a problem. Her comments to Jamie Pauls when he asked about it were flippant, bordering on rude. At that point, she did know that someone was interested in the book, so saying she didn't know won't wash. If I had made a similar remark about a book on women's studies, I believe you would have been offended and probably would have confronted it. Whether censorship is done deliberately or without intent, the end result is the same. The only difference lies in someone's response once they are made aware of the issue.

Hi everyone, I think we're all missing one obvious possibility here. The exclusion ofPower to the People may have just been an oversight. It may have simply been forgotten or overlooked. There are a lot of best sellers each month, andI'm sure that purchasing each one must be rather complicated. It's very easy to just accidentally miss a couple. I doubt that the absence of any book is indicative of some sort of deeper Bookshare conspiracy to exclude books with certain controversial opinions. Really guys... Bookshare censorship? C'mon. It's just not likely. I'm disappointed that severalpeople on this list just jumped to the conclusion that Carrie purposely left out Power to the People. You didn't give her the benefit of the doubt, you never asked her why it wasn't in the collection, you just assumed that shehad a personal reason for not getting that book. I feel that that assumption is highly unfair. Allison Hilliker Intern: Bookshare.org.
