Jackie,
I'm not sure about the system tray, but Win 7 has a handy feature, which allows you to pin programmes to the task bar. Select the thing you want, and open the context menu,, and choose "pin to taskbar". To open the programme, hold down the windows key, and press no. 1, 2 or whatever. You can unpin the same way.

Putting shortcuts on the desktop is the same as in XP. Context menu again, then "send to", then desktop.

HTH, Ted.

Hi Pele

Yes I have the book, and may well call upon it for odds and ends if need be.

I am up and running now to the point where I have Office installed, my
account in Outlook running, and my Braille display going. I just can't get
anywhere with the scanner at present, but hope tomorrow will bring me better
joy.

I also want to find out how to put items into my System Tray and onto the
Desktop. But, hey, I'll get there. It's like everything else, you get used
to it eventually! (smile).

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Hi Jackie

It sounds as though you are having a hard time getting Windows 7 up and
running. I have to admit we had some help to get our PCs running, but it
was all a bit traumatic.

Have you read "Windows 7 and Vista Explained" by Sarah Morley? It is quite
a useful book to have. It is sold by RNIB.
