Jackie what version of windows 7 are you using. 
I am curious I am using win ultimate 64bit and up to date it has taken
everything that I installed old and new.

The CD seems to indicate that it does, but I've now downloaded some
that Andrew Hodgson kindly provided a link for, so will try this and
hope for the best.

Is it possible the scanner just does not have 64 bit drivers?
I know this sounds blatently obvious, but it's worth a shot.
