Hi Jackie,

I'm sorry I've not been much help. I checked the downloaded driver directory and found both an install.exe and a setup.exe. After a year I can't remember which one i used. All I remember is running one of these and following the instructions. Once again, my apologies.

Regards

David

Hi David

Then please do forgive me for being completely stupid, but where did you
install the driver on your PC? Did you, for example, put the driver in the root of drive C, or in Users, or your name, for example. I've tried putting it in a couple of places, but the minute I do that, then execute the driver,
it tells me there is no scanner installed. And when I don't execute the
driver, but simply turn on the scanner, it still tells me the driver has
been unsuccessfully installed, and the scanner comes up in the Device
Manager is a USB2 device.

Any help someone could add to that would be so much appreciated.

On a more positive note, and thanks to everyone who gave me links and tips,
I have installed Microsoft Security Essentials, and Microsoft Office 2003.

I'm still trying to work out how to get normal items like Internet Explorer
and Computer onto the Desktop, but it's coming ... Slowly! (smile).

No ,I installed the driver manually and then plugged in the scanner.

Hi David

So did you just download and extract the zip file to your C drive and
let the scanner find the drivers when you turned it on?

Hi Jackie,

I don't know if it's relevant or not but I couldn't use the CD that
came with the scanner, I just loaded the driver software I mentioned
below directly.

David

Hi David

Thanks for responding so helpfully. The first task I completed when
setting up the machine was to turn off the User Account Control as it
is often a real pain when trying to install software and hardware.
All I keep getting is that the scanner cannot be found, and to wait
for the Add New Hardware feature to pop up, then continue. Trouble
is it never does, and instead installs an unknown USB scanner.

I hate being beaten, but we found ourselves going round and round in
circles with it yesterdaay, so if I don't receive anything that I can
try on list, I'll just have to ask the chaps at the shop to help me
with it as I'm obviously doing something wrong, or there is a
specific way in which it needs to be installed.

I'll let you know if I get it sorted!

Hi Jackie,

I use the plustek scanner and installed it using driver version
plustek ob3600 v4.0.1.0 It was over a year ago and I can't remember
any problems other than having to use administrator privilege. I
still have the driver download saved if this is of any use.

Regards

David

Subject: [access-uk] Calling all Windows 7 64 bit users

Apologies for the cross-posting, but I could do with some help
please from anybody not subscribed to both these lists who knows a
thing or two about Windows 7 64 bit.

I have now just taken the plunge and bought a new PC with Windows 7
64 bit on it. I also decided to purchase the Plustek Opticbook 3600
scanner, but can I install it? Can I hell! I have tried everything
I can think of, but it doesn't seem to want to play ball, so my
first question is to ask if anyone else has successfully done this
and, if so, what steps did they take to achieve it.

Turning next to antivirus, I understand Microsoft Security
Essentials is a good free utility, but I have spent hours literally
trying to find the appropriate link to download the 64 bit version,
unsuccessfully. This really hasn't been my day I can assure you.
Could anyone please provide a direct link so that I might get this
installed before I tear out what little hair I have anyway?

Finally, before I spend tomorrow faffing about and being
unsuccessful again, can I install my Office 2003 Professional
software? Yes I realise I should upgrade, but I don't feel like it
at the moment, so will it work with 64 bit

And if there are any more nasty surprises left in store, please
enlighten me now! (smile).

Kind Regards,
