Remember that I'm not the one that originally asked the question. I'm just another list member that seems to have the same problem. I don't know about his - but for mine... we have many printers directly attached to the network via JetDirect or other printer to network attachment devices. Everything we have is connected via an IP gateway to NDPS (we use HP Gateways, Xerox, etc, depends on the printer & network attachment configuration). If I wanted to rename a printer for everyone, I would either delete and recreate the printer, or I would just rename it in NetWare Administrator. My problem is - and what I thought his was - is that I need to rename them at workstation level. We have a naming policy district-wide that works flawlessly (i.e. F-1200-HPLJ4200-1 ((Building ID)-(Room Number)-(Printer Type)-(Seq. Number))). That's at tree level. So a printer name might be... \\E-1000-HPLJ4200DTN-1.Printers.ECC.DIS.EFCTS That's fine for nearly all of our users. There are, however, a few users that are not computer literate, and need all of the hand-holding that we can give them. Such users are those that need the printer to be renamed (i.e. Printer, Color Printer, Duplex Printer, Printer in Lab1, etc) That's what I can't figure out. It's easy to rename the printer for *everyone*. Ok, here are some questions: How is the printer attached to the network? (Workstation, Server, Direct) Is the Printer NDPS-aware? If not, what kind of gateway are you using? If you're using a Controlled Access Printer, can't you just use NetWare Administrator to change the name value of the leaf object? If that didn't work, why can't you just delete and recreate the printer agent with the new name? Have you tried changing the name in the Novell Printer Manager on the workstation? Have you tried the Novell forums? http://support.novell.com/forums/ Chris Berry compjma@xxxxxxxxxxx Systems Administrator JM Associates "The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force." --Darth Vader _________________________________________________________________ online games and music with a high-speed Internet connection!
