It's getting close to Gretch's annual physical time. So I'll certainly
have her checked out as thoroughly as possible, but she has been
extraordinarily healthy in the past. This morning we went north instead
of south, and it was as if yesterday never really happened. It's not
windy today and not as hot either. The individual I attempted to contact
at my training program is unavailable until next Tuesday, though she
might call back sooner. I don't know whether to go back to the scene of
the crime or just avoid the area for a few days so nothing negative
generalizes. This morning she was confident and nonplussed working
through two major signaled crossings, and I clicked and treated and sang
Gretch's praises happily at the up curbs. Incidentally, something else
happened this afternoon which may possibly help bolster Gretch's overall
confidence level. . I had arranged for a ride to the gym at noon because
of weather concerns, and while we were out front waiting, Gretch's head
went down to the grass, and she ate a dying cicada while it was making
those horrid little noises that make my skin crawl. I'm one of those who
enjoys being licked, and the Gretchy Girl likes to lick. But I don't
know about licking any more. <grin> I'm not sure how much water she has
to drink before I can consider her mouth a cicada free environment.

Wow Sheila you have your hands full. Met is also a
soft dog and though we have worked absolutely
amazingly together I have to admit there are times
when I wished he was not so soft.
Honestly I would consider a consult with a holistic
vet first. The wind issues can often be caused by
imbalances in their systems that a regular vet is not
trained to notice let alone help equalize.
That said- I could not help notice the recurrence of
issues that had calmed down from what it sounded like-
they also appear to be very common vaccinosis symptoms
that I had to deal with as do others who deal with
severe vaccinosis- has she been vaccinated again
within a few months of any of this starting up again?
and if so, with what?
It may very well be that the incidents spooked her and
her confidence has been dashed as a result but I just
felt like I could really see Met and I in what you
wrote. Once we got the vaccinosis under control Met's confidence and
ability to work well returned again. I had so many people question me
about whether Met was too soft a dog to be working or not so I won't
even go
there- only you and the program can determine that
one. But if there is any possibility for an underlying
cause that could have set her back like this- been
there done that, maybe you can get her some help that
will strengthen her bodies weaknesses in the holistic veterinary
field... Maybe she was just spooked by circumstances of late but it sure
sounded an awful lot like the relapse Met and I went through in 1998 and
again in 2001
