[THIN] Re: Looking for your Original/Innovative uses for Citrix for a presentation I am doing

If latency is a problem now then it will me much more of a problem if
you decide to deploy apps centrally but locally installed (ie Database
is in central but client is remote). We are using latency as a
justification to move more people onto Citrix. We have one site who is
complaining about an app which takes 48-90 secs to change screens
(40,000 packets), another site which the same transaction takes 7-15mins
- we drop them on the Citrix box and the time drops to 4 seconds.

My two cents

Agreed, latency is inherently a problem with interaction sessions,
there
really is no solution to this issue. If the latency can't be fixed
then
local (remote) execution may be a better design solution.

This is the only Network type issue that Citrix has always had trouble
dealing with, but little else will succeed either. Citrix have
recognised
this and are trying to do something about it with their Orbital
acquisition
they now call the WANScaler. You sould discuss further with Citrix, or
a
reseller that understands more about it. Having said that, the only
real
solution to latency is to change your WAN design or carrier, if
possible,
but I'm sure you've probably been down that path already.

Cheers.

If you have network issues you should fix those issues first. Network
issues will cause application issues no matter the type of application
or
method you chose to deliver that application. You can't build a
house
without a solid foundation.

Unfortunately we have bandwidth and latency issues to overcome that
have
made our end user experience poor to say the least. This is not a
problem
with the Citrix environment but a problem with the network, however
trying
to explain that to the end user or the business managers doesn't seem
to
work. Fortunately I support other environments as well so I will

employed, I just hate to see good technology thrown out when it was
never
given the proper resources to work correctly.
