The Austin area Rare Bird Alert is a service of the Travis Audubon Society. This update is as of 7:00 on 4/3/2014. Send interesting sightings- complete with species name, LOCATION, and contact information- to Kenny Anderson at kennya290@xxxxxxxxx -Rarities Found This Week- An exceptional find of a photographed Lewis's Woodpecker on 3/29,30 in Burnet County is this week's top billing. Here's some of the information from Ebird, "The habitat was an artificial lake that left a ring of dead oaks around the edge, concentrated at the north end. There was a nice small stand of live oaks to the west of the lake immediately adjacent to the north end where the bird was located. The bird was reliably located by most observers in this same small area over the two day period. FYI the site where it was seen Revei(l)le( Peak)Ranch is privately owned, but the owner allows day use commercially for a variety of activities for a fee of $10 per day. he has told me that it is ok for bird watchers to come and look for this bird. The caretaker knows approximately where the bird is located and will direct bird watchers to this site (which is very close to the main parking area)" I don't have any more recent reports, or better way to contact the property owner. Here is a link to the contacts: http://rprtexas.com/contact/ The Inks Lake National Fishery in Burnet County had an update of Long-tailed Duck on 3/30, it has been reliable for some time but it is getting late in season so updates welcomed. A Blue-winged, possibly Brewster's, Warbler visited a Bastrop County water feature on 4/2. A Broad-tailed Hummingbird continued at an Austin home- 3/30 latest report. A White Ibis was early at Hornsby Bend on 3/30. American Bittern has been at Central Park Pond, 3/29,30 latest. 12 Horned Grebes at Stillhouse Hollow Union Grove WMA was a good total on 3/29 (Bell). Love to get more information, more recent information, better contact for the Burnet Lewis's Woodpecker...Best behavior at the ranch, especially you!
