Send interesting sightings- complete with species name, location, and contact information- to Kenny Anderson at kennya290@xxxxxxxxx -Rarities Found This Week- A Whimbrel was a real highlight at an Utley residence, bird was heard on 8/12 in Bastrop County. A Sora seen and heard on 8/13 and 14 was a surprise August find. The Sora was at the Triangle Pond in Austin (Travis). A male Yellow-headed Blackbird was in the Utley area on 8/12 in Bastrop County. Least Grebes all but vanished from my attention in the Austin area as they became breeding year-round residents. They are now slightly more difficult to find (that I know of), so two reports from Bastrop County- including a breeding pair on private property 8/12- were of some interest. The other (2) birds were on a pond in the closed section of Bastrop State Park on 8/16. An American Redstart was photographed on 8/15 at Warbler Woods in Guadalupe County. Bird was present on 8/11. Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60 mile radius, centeredfrom the Capitol in downtown Austin. The circle extends north to Belton (Bell County), south to Leesville (Gonzales County), east to SomervilleWMA (Lee Burleson County), and west to Blumenthal (Gillespie County).Birdsightings mentioned here have been filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine.
