The Austin Area Rare Bird Alert is a service of the Travis Audubon Society. This update is as of 11:30 on August 9, 2012. Send interesting sightings- complete with species name, location, and contact information- to Kenny Anderson at kennya290@xxxxxxxxx . I skipped last week due to lack of reports/activity. Looks like I could again this week, but I will go forth to encourage myself to get out more. Lots of the expected southward migrant activity is underway, there must be a gem out there. -Rarities Found This Week- 2 Juvenile Snowy Plovers continue in the Tow area of the western shore of Lake Buchanan in Llano County. These juveniles are good evidence that breeding has occured in the area. 7/28 A Zone-tailed Hawk was seen near the Llano boatramp in Llano County on 7/28. 2 Fulvous Whistling Ducks were viewed on Earhardt Road near the Hope Valley Tree Farm in Bastrop County on 7/27. The Highland Mall in Austin had an update on the Purple Martin Roost on 7/28- spectacular numbers were mentioned. A male Yellow-headed Blackbird was photographed at Hornsby Bend on 7/28. The checklist has them at less than 5 records per season for July- perhaps a bit over-stated. I'd love to hear from you with your bird sightings...
