This is the Austin Area Rare Bird Alert. This update is as of 3/26/2015.
Send interesting sightings, complete with species name, location, and
contact information to Nate McGowan at natemcgowanbirds@xxxxxxxxx.

-Exceptional birds in the circle-

A STRIPED SPARROW was photographed and audio recorded at CR 428 east of CR
361, *Williamson*, 1/11. The most recent positive report is from 3/24. This
is a potential first ABA record, although provenance has been questioned.

At least one, and possibly two WHOOPING CRANES continued at Granger Lake,
*Williamson*, 3/21. The bird(s) is being seen in the Sore Finger area.

AN EVENING GROSBEAK was well photographed at a private residence in far
west *Travis County*, 3/20. The bird has not been relocated since that date.

-Rarities found this week-

A TUFTED TITMOUSE was photographed and carefully studied near Thrall,
*Williamson*, 3/21.

A WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH was reported from the Northwest Hills area of
Austin, *Travis*, 3/22.

AN AMERICAN BITTERN was photographed at Lake Pflugerville, *Travis*, 3/21.
The bird was heard vocalizing.

Two YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS were seen (one photographed) at Nalle Bunny
Run in west Austin, *Travis*, on 3/22. This location is private access only.

A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was reported from Southern Walnut Creek Trail in Austin,
*Travis*, 3/22.

A BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER was early near Great Hills Park, *Travis*,
3/20.

Two VERMILION FLYCATCHERS were photographed on Lake Creek Trail,
*Williamson*, 3/20.

Two COMMON LOONS were late at Windy Point on Lake Travis*, Travis*, 3/23.

A SUMMER TANAGER was early near Bastrop State Park, *Bastrop*, 3/24.

A MISSISSIPPI KITE was an early migrant in northwest Austin, *Williamson*,
3/22.

A GRAY CATBIRD was early at St. Edward's Park, *Travis*, 3/20.

A PAINTED BUNTING was early at a private office complex in west Austin,
*Travis*, 3/23.

-Continuing birds from previous weeks-

A BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER continued at John Stokes San Marcos River
Park, *Hays*, most recently 3/24.

RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS continued at CRs 428 and 361 in *Williamson*, 3/25
and Alum Creek at Bastrop SP, *Bastrop*, 3/22.

GREAT KISKADEES continued at Berry Springs Park in Georgetown, *Williamson*,
3/25 and on private property in *Caldwell County*, 3/24.

EASTERN TOWHEES continued at a private office complex in west Austin,
*Travis*, 3/24 and at Warbler Woods, *Guadalupe*, 3/19.

RUSTY BLACKBIRDS continued at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, 3/23.

Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been
filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine.
