This is the Austin Area Rare Bird Alert. This update is as of 1/8/2015.
Send interesting sightings, complete with species name, location, and

-Exceptional birds in the circle-

The BROWN BOOBY at Windy Point on Lake Travis, *Travis*, was last reported
1/8.

More updates, positive or negative, are highly encouraged for this bird.

-Rarities found this week-

Highlights from the Bastrop CBC included a RUSTY BLACKBIRD, a
BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, PURPLE FINCHES, a LARK BUNTING, and a subadult
PAINTED BUNTING.

The Granger CBC featured a GREATER SCAUP.

The New Braunfels CBC turned up a ZONE-TAILED HAWK and a continuing
CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD, 1/4, both photographed.

The Palmetto CBC was highlighted by a FERRUGINOUS HAWK, *Gonzales*, 1/3.

A RINGED KINGFISHER is being seen at San Gabriel Park in Georgetown*,
Williamson*, most recently 1/5.

A CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was photographed at a private residence in *Travis*,
1/8.

A HUTTON'S VIREO was seen at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, 1/8.

A SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was photographed in western *Williamson County*,
1/6.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was photographed at Aquarena Springs, *Hays*, 12/31.

PYRRHULOXIAS were found at Nalle Bunny Run and McNeil Road (photographed),
*Travis*, 1/3.

An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen near Bee Caves, *Travis*, 1/7.

A GREAT KISKADEE was seen at private property, *Caldwell*, 1/3.

-Continuing birds from previous weeks-

A CURVE-BILLED THRASHER continued at Reimer's Ranch, *Travis*, 1/4.

A WHOOPING CRANE continued in eastern *Williamson*, most recently 1/6.

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE continued at Tejas Camp, *Williamson*, 1/5.

A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER continued at Bastrop State Park, *Bastrop*, most
recently 1/4.

A CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD continued on private property in New Braunfels*,
Comal*, 1/3.

First found on the Austin CBC, and interesting Northern type Oriole has
been photographed at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, and was most recently seen
1/6. There is still discussion as to whether this bird is a BULLOCK'S or
BALTIMORE ORIOLE.

RUSTY BLACKBIRDS continued at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, most recently 1/7.

A PYRRHULOXIA continued at Crozier Lane, *Travis*, 1/3.

Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60 mile radius, centered on the
Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been
filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine.
