I believe we started this string because of the low entries didn't we? It went
from there to the breed is dying and the All Breed exhibitors do not like
specialty folks or their dogs.
I would like to point out that entries are dropping in both rings.
The average age of the exhibitors is older than dirt.
The exhibitors are dying off faster than the dogs
It isn't much fun to spend twice the money to beat 1/3 of the dogs it use to to
make a major.
The dogs do have health issues but I have never met a breeders who did a
breeding to see what kind of nightmare he could create.
I do know one thing in the few breedings I have done. When you outcross
American to German you are hoping to create a healthier dog but you are only
guessing about one side of the pedigree because you will not know the health
history of one side. If you line breed on the American side with an outcross
you will get all of your old problems back.
One of my favorite breeding was Hermine to Ruff . The last of those is still
going strong at 14 years. She can still jump on the grooming table still goes
for her mile walks. Her sister died of mesentric torsion at 6. tell me was that
a good or a bad breeding? Do I ditch the son of that pairing because his one
aunt died early. How about all the others that lived past 12?
In truth we can only do the best we can.
