You are right we can never be free of these bloodlines as we can not
get rid of our human genes of our past ancestry but do we not want
to know what is there? Knowing it is back there can make all the
difference of diagnosing or treating it. Inbreeding and linebreeding
off these GSD's regardless of how far back they are is bringing
them to the surface of today. The immune system is diminished
to have the weakness for the chemicals-environment or past to
play a part today.

We will never be free of these bloodlines as mentioned BUT they are so far
removed as these animals were in the very early years of our breed.
IF we could have the ability to identify the genes responsible we could
eliminate many problems---after all as a "people surgeon" we have spent
billions on research to identify and isolate the genetic aspects of cancer and
have some positive results but we are a long way off in total identification.
These type funds are not available but progress is being made for our canines!!!
What has to be done is bring in fresh lines here in the USA of correct males to
breed to our females for the future and perhaps these incidences will be
diminished.
We should also be aware of the environmental impact in many forms of disease
not just cancer.
These problems are world wide in my experience with my judging exposure in many
different countries.
So be cautious of the various chemicals that exist in our food chain and
external environment.
