As for me I would not go American stud but would cross to a German GSD stud with lines I knew for years of research had sound health, temperament and could obtain what I was looking for. Just because they might be a German GSD this does not mean all is good with that GSD either if you do not know their bloodline history. :-) Years ago and still today a few breeders are still doing it with great success. Anytime you continue line-breeding or inbreeding off only certain bloodlines it will come back to haunt you in the future. I love both the American or German show dogs as well as the working dog, as there are still many of both out there that live long healthy lives. It does not matter if it is German or American bred to me. I like the look of certain GSD's back in the 50's and 60's but that does not mean I can not appreciate the GSD's of today. I just would like to see the GSD to be a joy to it's owner or breeder for lots of years to come and not be gone or suffer a short life with health or temperament issues. If you are a breeder, where do you go to find a *contemporary" American stud without at least one of these dogs in the pedigree? I'm not trying to be argumentative; I'd really like to know. It has everything to do with health and sound temperament which you need to avoid doubling-tripling up of GSD's that carried it on through their genes to present time. Even if you think you outcross does not make a difference since you are still linebreeding if these GSD's are in the background several times.  In all these pedigrees I have with dogs passing away to Hemangiosarcoma the below dogs are in their pedigrees over and over again. The males were also noted by others of having dogs with other cancers, EPI, Digestive-Bloat problems, Cryptorchidism. Several of the below GSDâ?Ts had fear aggression and unstable temperament issues too.
