Helen !
I have tried, unsuccesfully. through several iterations of this draft
Illustrated Standard to point out the many problems both in verbage in the
document and with drawings that resemble a Corgi more than a German Shepherd.
Each time I have been rebuffed with excuses that the document is under revision
and I should hold my comments and see if they are corrected in the next version.

I am sure that Lanalee and her committee have put in many long and gruelling
hours trying to get it right but, unless the document has changed beyond
recognition, I am of the opinion that we should give it a descent burial and
take a long - hard look at the document that has served us so well for so long.

I shouldn't pre-judge the latest version of the document, due in our (the
board) hands any minute now but honestly I believe that there is no way to
change the document sufficiently to make it acceptable and maybe we need to
start over or question whether we need to be doing this to begin with.

As I recall, if the document receives board approval. the intent is to spend
$10,000.00 on a first printing - just in time for the National. I hope that
this review is done with an eye toward an honest presentation of the Standard.

To All Board members----
I understand that there will be a vote on the pending Illustrated Standard. I
presume you mean that all the membership will have the right to vote. In my
opinion,I feel the present product is a disaster, and that the Board has tried
to push an inferior piece of work through in a hurry, just to get it done by the
National. I feel it should be put aside, more thought be put into whether a NEW
one is needed and if so ,then work on over several years . It took Norrie
Ordness four years to develop the GENERIC one, that he measured and drew from
the written Standard. His is concise,.easy to work with, and SHORT. In my six
years as Educational and ABJAC chairman,it was sent to every person applying
for judging the GSD. That included allbreed and Specialty applicants. No one
had trouble understanding it. Norrie didn't try to copy a great top winning
dog. Opinions on what's in style or type change over the years. He drew what
our Standard says. It has worked for over 50 yrs. Helen Mil
