Cats seem capable of developing strange tastes. A friend had a cat that was
extremely fond of buttered green beans. Certainly a strange taste for a
carnivore.

Subject: [pure-silver] Which photo chemicals taste the best?

Sort of an odd question...

I have a cat, who is usually a pretty well behaved
beast - she doesn't scratch or chew on anything -
almost. She seems to love the taste of negatives and
of prints. Last night I spent several hours in the
darkroom, and ended up with 4 prints that I was
pleased with. I put them in a stack on my dresser,
along with a bunch of work prints and the cat knocked
them off, and sorted through them so that she could
pick which one tasted best and proceeded to chew all
around the edges. This is not the first time, and I
know that I am at fault for not protecting the prints
better but, I notice that she seems to have particular
taste in the prints that she selects to chew on - I
have noticed:

Given a choice between colour or B&W negatives, she
will go for the B&W every time.

Given a choice between a fiber based and an RC print,
she will take the fiber based print almost always.

Last night, the stack of prints had probably 20 or so
prints in it - almost all FB, one of which was
selenium toned - guess which one she selected to chew
on?

Hence my question - I assume that there is a chemical
used in the process which she particularly likes the
taste of - probably fix, since this would be common to
the B&W negs and the prints, and fibre prints are
probably going to retain the taste better than RC.
Does anybody else have a pet who enjoys photography as
mine seems to?
