Instead of a typical HD it's using the SSHD?? Have you done
any benchmarks on the HD to see how slow/fast it is? Last I
heard, those types of HD's were slow.

I guess it may be hard to find benchmarking software for
Ubuntu. (For those that don't know, that's another
OS/operating system). Here's some I found:
http://www.overclock.net/linux-unix/248684-linux-benchmarks.html
http://phoronix-test-suite.com/
http://oss.sgi.com/LDP/HOWTO/Benchmarking-HOWTO.html

http://librenix.com/?inode=9895
http://mssaleh.wordpress.com/2008/05/19/ubuntu-804-lts-vs-windows-xp-sp3-application-performance-benchmark/

But you could zip up (or its equivalent) some files to give you
an exact high mb size, like 100mb, then just copy it and time
it.

Interesting, here's a test from back in 2007 which shows **this
particular** SSHD being faster than typical HD's in many tests.
But no one seems to be selling it now.

Note in the article it says they can wear out. See the top of
the page at the 1st URL immediately above. "There's also some
concern about the drive wearing out. You may not know it but
flash memory has a limited amount of times that you can write
to it."

This is interesting, it would appear some are really fast, and
some are really slow.

For those of you who might be interested in this relatively new
category
of computers, I've recently acquired a Dell Mini-9 running
Ubuntu, and I
find it quite handy.

It has an 8.9" screen, about a 4 hour battery life, 512 B RAM
and weighs
a little over 2 pounds. I twas given to me, but the cost at the
time was
$200.00.

I'm a desktop guy, but I've found this to be very useful for
quick email
chores, light surfing, and info lookups.

It boots very quickly and has a convenience factor I really
like.
The drawback is a small, 6GB Solid State Hard Drive, but I've
supplemented that with a 16 GB Flash drive.

In one article the reviewer said he thought netbooks would
serve as the
primary computer for half the people he knew, and I tend to
agree.
