Thanks for your help Cris but I don't have Messenger service on my =
computer and I wish it was as easy as that but this has nothing to do =
with Microsoft.=20
I looked in my control panel but in WindowsME there is nothing with =
Administrative Tools.
This looks more like there is a virus inside my computer, no use to use =
a pop-up killer now because it has already put itself in my computer.
They are pop-ups with ads about Viagra and how much in danger I am.
sylvia.

You've run your spybot? Do you have a pop up killer? You could download =
the google toolbar with the pop up killer on it and activate that.=20
Not sure about it on a windows ME system - it says it is activated by =
default on win. xp - so what it is on win ME - I'm not sure -=20
you could try disabling messenger service. This is NOT instant =
messenger. and Microsoft is supposed to be creating a patch to close it =
themselves - at some point.=20

The workaround solution is to disable the Messenger service as follows:

a.. Click Start, and then click Control Panel (or point to Settings, =
and then click Control Panel).=20

  b.. Double-click Administrative Tools.=20

  c.. Double-click Services.=20

d.. Double-click Messenger Service in the right hand list of local =
services.=20

  e.. A Messenger Properties window will appear.=20

f.. In the General tab, set the Messenger service's Start Type to =
Disabled using the pull-down list of Start Types.=20

g.. Also in the General tab, click the Stop button in the Service =
Status section. Your computer will stop the service if it is currently =
running.=20

h.. Click OK. The Messenger Properties window will disappear.=20

i.. Click the File: Exit tab in the Services window, and it will =
disappear.

Subject: -=3DPCTechTalk=3D- problem

Hello to all,
I'm having a problem on my computer. I don't know if it is a virus or =
=3D
that it is called another name but I could use some help here. First I =
=3D
have these pop-up ads and I think that changes the things on my computer =
=3D
because after I've had those when I go into my favourites, I can't open =
=3D
them anymore. Also the images on my folder change every time. I have =3D
wastebaskets on files and telephones on other files but when I open them =
=3D
they open in the regular way. After I restart the computer things are =
=3D
good again until the ads pop-up again. The pop-ups come, say about every =
=3D
15 minutes when I'm online.
I have WindowsMe and Norton System Works, also spybot and adAware. I run =
=3D
the virusscan from Norton and also the online scan Housecall, but =3D
nothing was found. Still I think something is really wrong.
I'm not an expert on the computer so I don't know where to look and how =
=3D
to find things that don't belong there.
Help please,
Sylvia.........Holland.
