Beverly,
I suspect that is the reason why Firefox has not been able to start and
has been severely confused in thinking that it is already running. The full
path for all profiles should be as follows under Win98 with the 'xxx...'
part replaced by random characters chosen by Firefox upon installation. You
have correctly pointed out that this area does not even exist on your hard
drive.

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\

To get your paths back to where they should be, I'll need a couple more
screenshots so I can see where everything is currently. Specifically, I'd
like to see the contents of these folders:

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\

Hopefully, this is all that will be needed for me to see what's wrong
and to precisely explain how to put it back together. If you wish, you can
go ahead and move the Profiles folder inside the Firefox folder as shown in
the first path statement above before or after you take the screenshot
images. I already know that I will be including that direction in my next
reply and that may even be all that is needed to get Firefox working again.

Peace,
G
