Cristy, On my system, ZA would take a while to start up. After about 3 minutes or so, a warning box appears telling me that a control is modifying the registry. Well, of course there is. It's Symantec AV starting up one of its modules There is no check box for me to tick to tell ZA that it's ok to allow it from now on, so it comes up on every boot. To add insult to injury, I still can't do anything but stare at my screen until a second warning box shows up about 5 minutes later to tell me that the same entry is being modified again. That would be Symantec sending an "All Ready" signal to the rest of the OS. Again, there is no box to tick to make this all happen automatically. I just got fed up with it after a while and decided to try something else. I wasn't about to give up my newly found friend Symantec AV Corp, so I decided to really give the Windows firewall a workout and see if it was as bad as the MS baskers had said. Of course, they were talking about the pre-SP2 version, so the test wasn't really about that. It turns out that the built in firewall is all I need as long as I have all of the other security apps in place around it. I was very happy with that realization and haven't looked back since. Everyone could benefit from WinPatrol. It adds a guard dog to the doorway of your virtual house and lets you know when something tries to enter unannounced. It also watches your registry, browser add-ons, etc. without getting in the way at all. Since it works as a real time monitor, it also starts up with Windows, so there's no need to try and remember to run it. As I mentioned earlier, there's a lot more to the utility than just watching your back, but that's the main purpose of the program.
