I have Avast installed now but want to DROP AVG  It just wont LET ME

Pat,
    At this point, I no longer recommend AVG for anyone's use.  They are (or 
already have by now) turning off all support for 7.5 to force people to move 
to 8.x, but the new version is extremely buggy.  Across all of the groups to 
which I belong, all I'm seeing are complaints.  While some issues are 
similar to the one you're describing here, there are many others that I'm 
glad to see are not affecting your friend, at least not yet.

    His best bet is to drop AVG and look for another AV solution that serves 
his needs without all the bugs.  If AVG ever gets their act together and 
fixes these issues, it may be enough to return them to the "Recommended" 
list.  Until then, they are officially on the "Avoid" list.       :0(
