Re: OEMGC and Standard Edition?

Tim,

Yes it can be managed without all the extra packs. However as you note large
amounts of functionality are not legally available to you (even though of
course some of them are already installed and operating on your SE target -
you just can't look at the data).

In later versions of GC though (certainly 10.2.0.4 and 5) however disabling
Grid from using the packs disables huge swathes of functionality and makes
the product (in my view) pretty much useless. The other huge irritant to me
is that Oracle draws an (in my view) artificial distinction between an alert
and a notification. Alerts in GC parlance don't include telling anybody
about anything. So although you can get alerts about - for example full
tablespaces - then you can't in the out of the box product be emailed about
them without incurring a license liability. In essence it appears to me that
GC/database control with at least the diags pack licensed is a worthy
investment, but without it is a waste of time and energy.

This isn't how it should be :)
