The reality is that none of this is as it appears. The broadcasters created the DTV Trojan Horse to help the CE industry promote HDTV for home theaters and multichannel subscription services. And the CE industry footed most of the bill. The cable industry hitched a ride, turning HDTV into one of the most important new services to help keep premium subscribers from defecting. And they get a free ride on cable ready tuners, even though most people will not use them, opting instead for more capable STBs from the cable systems... And the consumer gets screwed by another government mandate related to something the government has no business meddling in. And then there's the Broadcast Flag... Talk about over reaching!
