The rep. on the Modelworks stand at Donninton told me that the replica of the Locomobile is in Ireland and added that he did'nt think one could drive it on the road ,perhaps he ment that in true modelworks tradition the thing would not work anyhow. ----- Original Message ----- From: "alanjstepney" <alan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <modeleng@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, November 12, 2004 3:09 AM Subject: [modeleng] Re: Modelworks This is based upon a model, made by someone in, I believe, Sweden, which is, in turn, based upon the original Locomobile. Modelworks themselves admit they haven't built one (So what's new??), and when questioned about its liability for road regulations such as Type Approval etc, claimed that they didn't think it would be safe to actually drive it !!!! (Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I suspect they meant, "drive it on the road".) Even so, at over £10,000 one would and should, expect that it would be satisfactory and COULD be driven on road, if the owner so chose. One more thing about Modelworks. As most people know, when Winsons went into liquidation, the assets and business was bought by Modelworks International Ltd. That was the company that was advertising, and selling until recently. Now, it is Modelworks International Sales Ltd, and entirely different company. "Sales" was only incorporated in February 2003, whereas Modelworks was incorporated in April 2001. Now, there could be a valid reason for the Directors of Modelworks to trade through a different company from the one that bought the machinery, stock, designs, etc of Winsons. Many large and successful organisations have a number of subsidiaries for a variety of reasons. What I should wish to know if I was placing an order with them, is who is the contract (order) actually with? Who owns the assets? What is the worth of the company I am dealing with? The reason being that, in the event of its failure, it is those assets that will be sold and the proceeds distributed among the creditors, which would include any customers who had paid deposits etc. As "Sales" was at Donington, one must assume that an order placed there would have been with them. I wonder what the relationship is between them and the original company? All questions which prudent prospective buyers should ask and ensure they have answers to. alan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.alanstepney.info Model Engineering, Steam Engine, and Railway technical pages. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Clif Walker" <clif.gwr@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <modeleng@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, November 11, 2004 10:30 PM Subject: [modeleng] Modelworks Hi All, I see that Modelworks are now advertising a kit for a full size steam car. Anybody want to quote odds on one ever getting on the road? Regards Clif MODEL ENGINEERING DISCUSSION LIST.
