Hello.

Just to add to Keith's information: If you are a Linux terminal fan, you may find the procedure there a little easier as I did. At the terminal prompt, enter the following:

diskutil repairpermissions /

You can also type:

diskutil verifypermissions /

but both appear to do the same thing. There are a lot of things one can do with this command and you can find out just what by reading the man page:

man diskutil

Perhaps no one cares about this stuff, but I thought I'd put it out there for those who might like to know.

Best regards,

-Jason

Repairing permissions,

Go to the utilities directory,
from the finder, command-shift-u
Then to disk utility,
Interact with the table and find your drive,

VO keys, or, tab over to the repair permissions button and Press it with VO keys-space bar.

It may take several minutes and you can VO around and find the report, or, wait until the repair permissions button is not dim.

Hi Scott,

You only repair permissions when you install new software and I have never had to zap the P-ram in over 3 years. No monthly maintainense.

Hi all.

being new to the mac can anyone tell me and anyone else who may be interested, what maintenance does one need to do to keep their mac in tip top shape? I've heard you have to repair permisions each month and every 6 months you have to zap the p ram. can anyone tell me exactly if there's any other maintenance one must do to their macs? I'm familiar with what one needs to do to keep a windows machine in good shape but the mac is a whole new experience. I'm enjoying the experience and I never thought i'd say it but man i'm so glad to have a mac and hardly use windows anymore. The mac is absolutely brilliant and i'm really greatful to apple for voice over and great access to the mac. I know there are always improvements that can be made but right now we have it pretty good and again thanks to the list for any assistance.
