David, thank you for the impressive comparisons and your experiences with
both systems. One could put both on an optical test rig, run MTFs, compare
corners, and still not get the "experience" looking at your test shots
conveys. The difference leaps off the screen to me.
I also am very interested in a comparison between the DMR and film scanned
by experts like Doug.
I'm sure most of us on the Leica lists remember the aha! moment when we
first compared our Leica slides with other camera's images. It wasn't about
science, it was a subjective experience. Later, we got confirmation from
Erwin.
I just reviewed my credit card summary and discovered I spent over $1000 on
slide processing last year. That's a lot for an amateur IMO. Something might
change...
