Hi;

I'll try and explain the ILM authorisation scheme as best I understand it.
If one of the "official beta testers" wants to add anything, feel free, as
they probably know the system better than I.

Firstly, an important point, the notion of keys has gone. ILM does not use
keys to verify that a product is licensed.

When you install an ILM version of JAWS, you connect to the web and begin
the authorisation process. This generates an unlock code based on your
hardware configuration at that time, and decrements your count for remaining
authorisations by one (1) count. This unlock code is then stored on your
system for the client side (your system) portion of the ILM system to verify
against each time your system boots up. This check against hardware
specification is necessary to ensure the code has not been transferred to
another machine.

The code is *unique* to your hardware configuration at that time, but not
software configuration. So, if you change your hardware, e.g. add another
hard drive, change the RAM, etc. you will need to re-authorise your system
and gain a new unlock code based on your new hardware. However, installing
or removing software will have *no* effect on the unlock code.

There is a tool to remove authorisation, found within the JAWS program group
for ILM versions, however this simply deletes the unlock code from the
system. It does *not* increment your authorisation count by one (1) count,
in fact, it does nothing to your authorisation count. Therefore, once you
have authorised a system under ILM there is no way to remove that
authorisation and increment your authorisation count, it remains the same
number as it was prior to removing the authorisation.

There is no way to transfer authorisations between different machines, and
you will have to generate a new unlock code for each machine for which you
wish to authorise JAWS. As I mentioned earlier, the unlock code is specific
to your hardware configuration, so even if transfer was possible, the unlock
code would not work on a machine other than the one that was used to create
the authorisation code.
