Adrian, Good sleuthing. I know that auto archive is a feature with MS-Outlook, but sure didn't recall anything in Outlook Express. A third-party application is definitely a valid question to pose. BTW I just ran a compact on my system here, and it took over 25 minutes. So it may still just be a matter of semantics, in connection with needing to wait longer. If OE is launched after aborting the compaction process, I'm pretty sure it will try again to compact the next time it's opened and closed, so Ray you may want to encourage your client to go make an espresso while the compacting is going on, just to be sure. Something is confused because, as this PC Magazine article states, OE doesn't have an archive feature: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,1645325,00.asp To correct the element I contributed to this confusion, I now remember I was advised not to use Outlook's archive feature, not, as I indicated, OE's. Ray, did your client install a third-party archive, as this article discusses? -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Farfar Carlson Sent: Wednesday, September 29, 2010 11:08 AM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Problem with JFW 11 and Autoarchiving in Outlook Express Ray, A couple thoughts, in addition to Adrian's suggestion.... 1. I still can't find any mention of "auto archive" in the OE settings, nor anything like "auto compact". Where is this setting? 2. Next time, set JAWS to read all screen changes (insert S) so you can listen to the progress of the compaction. It should speak the folder, and then some number of seconds, repeating for every folder. Again it takes a long time if there are thousands of messages. I have one folder with 14 thousand messages that alone took over 3 minutes to compact. I understand it could take a long time, but we waited probably 10 minutes, and JAWS was giving percentages for a while, then stopped with no indication what was going on.
