Well, I personally know some Mac users who don't use Windows really for anything anymore, but yes, that's completely beside the point. You and I reached the same conclusion, actually. I was merely agreeing with you.

That's fine. I simply ask those who say that the Mac is better for everyday
tasks to demonstrate it. I've used both, and find that for me, Windows is
better. Professionally, there's no place for a Mac in my world, and
personally, I haven't seen a use for one, either. Your mileage may vary,
and I respect that.

What I find ironic is that most of those who complain the loudest that the
Macs are better are still steadfast Windows users.

Perhaps I should be clear: it doesn't matter to me which computer you use, but if you want to berate Windows and JAWS, I simply suggest that this isn't
the list for it.

No, I'm not saying JAWS doesn't have bugs, or that Windows doesn't have
bugs. Rather, I'm suggesting that trying to solve problems is more
effective than wasting our time with pointless rants.

And, it's true, I suppose I'd like a demonstration that a Mac would be
better for my everyday work and home computing; at the moment I'm skeptical.
I'll concede that such proof isn't best offered on this list, though.

Others have had their responses to Brandon's outburst, though, an mine was
simply:  Fine, prove it.

I suspect he won't, though.

Sorry if you find my opinion disagreeable; it is only my opinion, but it is
my opinion.

There are advantages and disadvantages to Windows and Mac. It depends on
what you want to do. but, I've found personally that favoring one system
over another isn't going to solve anything. JAWS is a great screen reader
for Windows. Windows has its own accessibility issues as well, and trying
to say one is better than the other is not going to get anyone anywhere.

I agree with you, Karl.

I get very tired of all the JAWS bashing, and the Windows bashing. If
you think a Mac is better, go buy one, and try using it for all your
every day tasks, from Email and word processing to surfing the
Internet, designing Web pages and running virtual machines. If it
works for you, wonderful; I've never found it to be all that good
myself, and the recent improvements still demonstrate that they have a
long way to go to achieve good accessibility with speech and Braille.

As to technical support, every company I have called, whether it be a
vendor of blindness products or for my router, PC or operating system,
wants to know my serial number, license key or other identifying
information that demonstrates that I'm a licensed user of their
product. The reality is that companies, whether they are hardware or
software manufacturers, and whether they are vendors of blindness
products or more traditional vendors, are out to make money, and they
have a right to do so.

In this instance, if you were testing the demo of their product, just
let them know that. I don't know if they'll still be as eager to call
you, but don't right them off straight away. They may still be more
interested in resolving the problem, but only time will tell.

So Brandon, why haven't you switched to a Mac? And why, if you
despise JAWS so much, are you still on the list?

You guys certainly have a right to your opinion but I don't see how
you can expect a company to offer tech support to someone who has no
current license. If you call any company for tech support the first
thing they ask you, that is after your credit card number, is if you
are running the latest version of their software. If not you're
generally told to install it and call in the morning.

Hmm. Agree with you in everything, accept the MAC thing. I'll never
use a MAC as my main computer in my life, yeah they're good, but I
mean come on, they're not everything that people claim they are. For
an example Brandon, if Edward Alonzo thinks Macs are so good, why does
he still use his Windows machine for everything?

|||
|||
|||
||| Dear Sir/madam,
|||
||| I've just installed the latest build of JAWS 9, JAWS 9.0.2152,
||| running on
|||
||| an HP Compaq Presario C700 Notebook PC with Windows Vista Home
||| Premium. I
|||
||| wish to report two problems with this latest build, which were not
|||
||| introduced with previous builds of JAWS 9, including the recent
||| build
|||
||| (9.0.552).
|||
||| 1. Eloquence Software synthesizer: When I type, it sounds as if it
||| has
|||
||| some type of chorus affect. I can't really describe the effect,
||| but it's
|||
||| strange anyhow. It doesn't happen as much when I'm reading
||| something.
|||
||| 2. When I compose an HTML message using Outlook 2003, JAWS "grinds
||| to a
|||
||| halt" for a few seconds then starts talking again. This happens
||| when I
|||
||| type really fast. When I compose in plain text however, it's not
||| as
|||
||| sluggish, see below.
|||
||| 3. When I type in general, there appears to be a slight lag from
||| when I
|||
||| press a character on the keyboard to when JAWS announces what I've
|||
||| entered.
|||
||| Please note that these problems did not exist with all previous
||| builds of
|||
||| JAWS 9, including the recent build (9.0.552).
|||
||| Thanks in advance for taking these problems into consideration,
||| and I look
|||
||| forward to hearing from you.
|||
||| Yours Sincerely,
|||
||| Christopher Hallsworth
