There are advantages and disadvantages to Windows and Mac. It depends on what you want to do. but, I've found personally that favoring one system over another isn't going to solve anything. JAWS is a great screen reader for Windows. Windows has its own accessibility issues as well, and trying to say one is better than the other is not going to get anyone anywhere.

I agree with you, Karl. I get very tired of all the JAWS bashing, and the Windows bashing. If you think a Mac is better, go buy one, and try using it for all your every daytasks, from Email and word processing to surfing the Internet, designing Webpages and running virtual machines. If it works for you, wonderful; I'venever found it to be all that good myself, and the recent improvements stilldemonstrate that they have a long way to go to achieve good accessibility with speech and Braille. As to technical support, every company I have called, whether it be a vendorof blindness products or for my router, PC or operating system, wants to know my serial number, license key or other identifying information thatdemonstrates that I'm a licensed user of their product. The reality is that companies, whether they are hardware or software manufacturers, and whether they are vendors of blindness products or more traditional vendors, are outto make money, and they have a right to do so. In this instance, if you were testing the demo of their product, just letthem know that. I don't know if they'll still be as eager to call you, butdon't right them off straight away. They may still be more interested in resolving the problem, but only time will tell.So Brandon, why haven't you switched to a Mac? And why, if you despise JAWSso much, are you still on the list? -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Karl Smith Sent: Saturday, April 26, 2008 1:38 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: JAWS 9.0.2152, Not Impressed So FarYou guys certainly have a right to your opinion but I don't see how you canexpect a company to offer tech support to someone who has no currentlicense. If you call any company for tech support the first thing they ask you, that is after your credit card number, is if you are running the latestversion of their software. If not you're generally told to install it and call in the morning. Agree with you in everything, accept the MAC thing. I'll never use a MAC as my main computer in my life, yeah they're good, but I mean come on, they're not everything that people claim they are. For an example Brandon,if Edward Alonzo thinks Macs are so good, why does he still use his Windowsmachine for everything? brandon wrote: || that is absolute shit. || Fs is a bunch of fuck ups and I'll continue to slam them on my || podcast until either that fuckup erik resigns, or they close or go || under. || I'm sick of fs and their stupid little piss ass games with all of us || as registered jaws users. || We all need to switch to macs anyway and really make them go out of || business. || Brandon || ----- Original Message ----- || From: "Chris Hallsworth" <christopherhallsworth71@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> || To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> || Sent: Saturday, April 26, 2008 1:09 PM || Subject: FW: JAWS 9.0.2152, Not Impressed So Far || || ||| Hi all, here's a response I got off Freedom Scientific Technical ||| Support regarding the problems I discussed in the latest JAWS ||| update. I ||| ||| wish to report two problems with this latest build, which were not ||| ||| introduced with previous builds of JAWS 9, including the recent ||| build ||| ||| (9.0.552). ||| ||| 1. Eloquence Software synthesizer: When I type, it sounds as if it ||| has ||| ||| some type of chorus affect. I can't really describe the effect, but ||| it's ||| ||| strange anyhow. It doesn't happen as much when I'm reading ||| something. ||| ||| 2. When I compose an HTML message using Outlook 2003, JAWS "grinds ||| to a ||| ||| halt" for a few seconds then starts talking again. This happens when ||| I ||| ||| type really fast. When I compose in plain text however, it's not as ||| ||| sluggish, see below. ||| ||| 3. When I type in general, there appears to be a slight lag from ||| when I ||| ||| press a character on the keyboard to when JAWS announces what I've ||| ||| entered. ||| ||| Please note that these problems did not exist with all previous ||| builds of ||| ||| JAWS 9, including the recent build (9.0.552). ||| ||| Thanks in advance for taking these problems into consideration, and ||| I look ||| ||| forward to hearing from you. ||| ||| Yours Sincerely, ||| ||| Christopher Hallsworth ||| ||| ||| ||| ||| -- ||| JFW related links: ||| JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ Scripting mailing ||| list: ||| http://lists.the-jdh.com/listinfo.cgi/scriptography-the-jdh.com ||| JFW List instructions: ||| To post a message to the list, send it to jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To ||| unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to ||| jfw-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject ||| line.
