Mark,

thanks. So first of all, it's not exactly a real "bar" in the sense of
something that's always there, like the tool bar. And it probably doesn't
contain very many controls, maybe just something that amounts to a dialogue
with two controls for responding to the kind of thing that triggers it? And
you say you don't have to jump on alt n immediately after getting a notice
like that? Well, does that mean you can do it anytime after hearing Jaws say
that you've just avoided a popup, if you get a notion to see what it was, a
few minutes later? In other words, does the timing depend not on how long
the Info Bar stays up, because it only comes into view (so to speak) if you
hit alt n when receiving a notice, but how long the notice itself stays
displayed? My pop-up notice seems to speak and then go away completely, in a
couple of seconds.

So I guess I'm not imagining accurately what happens. But what you and
Adrian explained helps me to understand at least what you're supposed to do
if you receive some sort of notice, whatever that might include besides
pop-up announcements, and I'll take it from there. Maybe next time I get a
pop-up blocker notice, I'll alt n and just see what controls or whatever I
wind up accessing. Just don't experience many of those notices as I used to,
as if advertisers have simply given up on pop-ups, for the most part.

Is there any other category of "event" that triggers the notice thing?
Besides pop-ups?

The information bar only appears when something triggers it--like, for
example, a popup being blocked. It's not necessary to "quickly press alt
n", but merely pressing it will put focus on the information bar, at which
point pressing the space bar will actually display the menu. It's a bit
tricky, I'll admit--since, obviously, Freedom didn't implement any sort of
tutor message or anything alerting users as to what to do in the event of
the information bar being displayed, but according to the JAWS help system,
the process I've just described is the method for accessing the information
bar. Mark
