You are making an assumption that they have not
participated in forums/mailing lists regarding the
usage/troubleshooting of LAMP. They could have.
Usually, beginners who are interested in development
are asked to test free software and report bugs (if
any). This is also contribution to free software. They
are actually helping to improve the software.
Learning and teaching people to use free software is
also contribution to free software.
