Well, when one says Windows Programming, you should be geared towards
learning VC++ - the Windows way , which I see many dont. I have taken many
seminars and classes and once I go deep into explaining what MFC generated
code does, they stop me and ask, why to learn those internals!. I am not
sure of other courses and colleges, but when I did my PG at Amrita-CBE, we
had many works done with VC++
I for one disagree with that. I learnt most of my programming under DOS and
then with Linux, but I was able to get into both VC++ and VC# with very
little effort. As long as you keep in mind that it's just a toolkit and a
different compiler, you're fine.
Anyway, we have Qt and GTK for windows, which are both much nicer than MFC,
and .Net's toolkit is quite good (and self-explanatory) too. I don't see much
of a problem in learning to program under one OS or the other, except maybe
some details with the IDE's UI. Even that's easy to get around...

"Begin at the beginning,", the King said, very gravely,
"and go on till you come to the end: then stop."
